A Must-See Spot in Maine for Design-Lovers
We were on the road back to Ohio after a week of exploring the coast of Maine. There was only one stop left to make before we left this green, magical state, and that was Freedom, Maine. If anyone’s seen the show, then you know exactly where I’m headed with this: The Lost Kitchen.
While I did NOT have a highly-coveted reservation to dine there, I still wanted to stop by to see the outside of it and also visit the home goods shop they opened right next door. And let me tell you, it was so worth the 30-minute detour.
I’ll let you see for yourself with the photos below, but for some context for those unfamiliar: The Lost Kitchen is a restaurant run by Erin French, serving up local and fresh dishes that are rumored to be so good that people from all over the country travel to get a taste. From my perspective, the environment she’s created is just as big of an appeal as the food.
“It feels natural - in it’s material and color choices - and is thoughtfully created to blend right into its natural setting, making you feel like it’s been there all along. A feeling great design often achieves.”
It’s inside a quintessential New England building with cedar shingles and surrounded by woods. To get to it, you walk across a bridge that overlooks a small waterfall… do I really need to say more? The inside is cottage cozy with wooden walls and tables, and no shortage of candles and fresh flowers. Next door is a small shop (shown below!) and outside down a path you’ll find an outdoor bathroom set-up, bikes, and picnic supplies — all for her overnight guests that sleep in a few tiny cottages in the woods nearby. I know, I know. It’s a little dream spot for people who adore 1) delicious, seasonal food 2) nature, and 3) DESIGN - because it’s all so perfectly designed and put together. It feels natural - in its material and color choices - and is thoughtfully created to blend right into its natural setting, making you feel like it’s been there all along. A feeling great design often achieves.
Ok, now for the visual treats!!
